GETTING TO QUINTA MATEUS

Quinta Mateus stands just outside the village of Alfarobeirra, a few kilometres from the town of Loulé, in the Algarve in southern Portugal. Most of our visitors fly to Faro and hire a car at the airport, but you can easily start your holiday by a variety of means.

Below are some general notes, but if you let us know how you are intending to travel, we will send you detailed instructions for getting to the farmhouse well before you travel.

By Air - Faro airport is only 15 minutes from the farmhouse, and is served by numerous international flights daily. A wide range of hire companies and vehicles are available at the airport, although we strongly advise you to book these in advance of your holiday. The picturesque AlgarveIf you don't wish to hire a car, taxi services from the airport are cheap and reliable, but do agree a price with the driver before you start the journey.

By Train - There are numerous national and international train services to Faro every weekday, and frequent services throughtout the weekends. Car hire is available at the station or in town (with delivery to the station against prior booking), and taxis are as frequent and reasonable as from the airport.

By Car - Quinta Mateus is only a few kilometres from the E01 autoroute, which connects Portugal in the north and in the south with Spain and therefore ultimately with the rest of Europe. The nearest exit to the farmhouse is N16, signposted to Loulé and Faro.

Car Hire - This is best arranged at home in advance, but can be done at Faro airport or in the town. If you are coming in the summer, be sure to ask for an air-conditioned car.

Note that most car rental agencies are closed on Sundays and national holidays, so if you are renting, be sure to check availability of your vehicle well in advance of your arrival.
