SÃO ROMÃO

The manorJust restored and renovated for occupancy from Spring 2004, the Manoir São Romão is an impressive stone-built Portuguese manor hose offering eight bedrooms and seven bathrooms, set in six acres (two-and-a-half hectares) of olive and carob trees, overlooking the São Bras/Loulé valley.

The property is just 20 miles (32 kilometres) from Faro (three kilometres) from either São Bras or Loulé, both their excellant local farmers' market shopping.

The outlook over the valleyThe property stands well apart from any others amidst over 100 acres (40 hectares) of trees and sheep-grazing meadows. A 43 feet x 23 feet (13 metres x 7 metres) solar-heated swimming pool is set in the old walled garden at the rear of the main house amidst landscaped lawns and shrubs adjoining the old piggery, which now boasts a self-contained apartment of two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchenette (but no pigs!). The double-height main kitchen features the original inglenook fireplace with a large wood-burning stove.

The main living room is enhanced by an enormous stone fireplace complete with a one-metre-wide dog grate. Heavily beamed ceilings and solid traditional furnishings complete the typical Portuguese manor setting. (More details and pictures will be available in due course for this recently-acquired property.)
